We're requesting your help in advancing another CRA-sponsored measure – AB 1640, aimed at addressing reservation piracy.
AB 1640 seeks to ban unauthorized third-party reservation services that use bots and fake profiles to hoard reservations and then sell them for a profit – monetizing a restaurant’s dining room and inventory, all without restaurant operators' consent.
These third parties make YOU front the cost, time, and effort that it takes to make your concept a reality and then profit from it. What's worse is that they target reservations on key dates and holidays — taking seats that patrons would otherwise fill.
Since they book these reservations with no intention of showing up, when they can't sell them, operators are left with empty seats.
AB 1640 is a simple, common-sense measure that ensures if a third-party wants to sell your reservations, YOU have to agree to it. Ultimately, AB 1640 is about consent and respect for operators' sacrifices.
Urge your Assembly Member to vote "aye" on AB 1640 when it comes up for a vote on the Assembly Floor.
Sincerely,
CRA Government Affairs Team
