We are working with the AICPA and state CPA societies to support federal legislation recognizing accounting as a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education program. This change would introduce accounting earlier in schools, expand access for all students, and strengthen the pipeline of future CPAs and finance leaders.
The Accounting STEM Pursuit Act (S. 3784) would establish the accounting profession as a STEM career pathway and also allow K-12 grant funding to be used for accounting education programs. Identical legislation was introduced in the House (H.R. 2911) last spring.
At this point in the legislative process, we are looking for members to reach out to their senators and representatives to support H.R. 2911 and S. 3784 by becoming bill cosponsors.
