With just days remaining before the Senate recess, a bipartisan group of senators is still negotiating the future of the ACA tax credits. Rather than a straightforward solution, discussions are moving toward a potential “compromise” that could weaken the benefit—including proposals to eliminate zero-dollar premium plans and add harmful policy riders, such as anti-abortion language. 

This would be a mistake.

As physicians, medical trainees, and health advocates, we see the consequences of unaffordable coverage every day—delayed care, skipped medications, preventable illness, and worsening outcomes. This moment demands clarity and urgency, especially as ACA healthcare enrollment has already dropped by 1.4 million in just the last few weeks due to massive premium hikes.

👉 Congress must pass a clean, multi-year extension of the ACA tax credits—without cuts, rollbacks, or poison-pill provisions—and protect access to affordable health care.
