The COVID-19 pandemic is over, but some of Biden’s programs that spent reckless amounts of money on the pandemic are still hanging around. The one that Democrats are rallying around is the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare) subsidies. Instead of abiding by the December expiration date — a date that Democrats instituted themselves — they are shutting down the government to try to force the hands of Republicans. We should encourage Republicans to stand their ground. 

The Obamacare subsidies were intended to be temporary during the COVID-19 pandemic. This so-called “relief” did not go to individuals, but directly to insurance companies. Suspiciously, the number of enrollees who did not file a single claim tripled. These insurance companies were using taxpayer dollars to open fraudulent accounts, which made Obamacare more expensive. The waste of money is not even the worst part of these subsidies.

Obamacare was created with few guardrails, so many of the plans pay for abortions and gender transition procedures at any age. Sex offenders have been able to receive low-cost or free healthcare through these subsidies, giving them the ability to “change their gender” and wreak havoc on girls and women in private spaces. Meanwhile, illegal immigrants were incentivized to pour over our borders because our federal government was handing them free healthcare while Americans were footing the bill. The Biden subsidies are generously lining the pockets of abortionists, gender mutilation doctors, pedophiles, and illegal aliens. This taxpayer subsidy needs to end.

Shutdowns are becoming an unofficial plank of the Democrat party. They shut the nation down during the COVID pandemic, and now they are shutting down the government to keep the COVID-era programs alive. Our Senators need encouragement not to compromise on these subsidies to reopen the government.
