House and Senate Democrats are currently revising important legislation that will include funding for programing for people with disabilities. It is critical that funding for home-and community-based services (HCBS) is included. HCBS provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to receive their services on their own terms where they are most comfortable. Now is our time to act!
House and Senate lawmakers are actively debating how much funding should be available for HCBS. The latest reporting suggests the number has been reduced to $190B, which is a fraction of President Biden's $400B proposal. Unfortunately, COVID-19 will continue to put individuals and workers in these settings at greater risk of infection, generating increased demand for HCBS.
As lawmakers look to potentially make significant cuts to the Build Back Better Act, we must ensure that funding for HCBS programs is not cut further than it already has been. We must continue to keep pressure on our members of Congress to keep funding to HCBS programs in the final version of this legislation.
Please contact your Members of Congress to let them know you want them to include the President's request for $400B in funding for HCBS programs. By ensuring these programs are given the funding they need, we can ensure that New Jerseyans living with disabilities are fully included in their communities and in the recovery from the pandemic. Thank you for your time and your advocacy!
