The FAIRNESS Act (SB 122) is a strong, commonsense response to Indiana’s growing illegal immigration crisis felt every day by Indiana communities, workers, and taxpayers.
The Fostering and Advancing Immigration Reforms Necessary to Ensure Safety and Security (FAIRNESS) Act would give Indiana real enforcement tools by requiring cooperation with federal immigration detainers, holding employers accountable for hiring illegal aliens, and tracking the use of public benefits such as Medicaid. These reforms protect public safety, uphold the rule of law, and ensure taxpayer-funded benefits are reserved for those legally eligible to receive them.
Unfortunately, instead of allowing the FAIRNESS Act to be fully considered, a weaker alternative, Senate Bill 76, is being rushed through the legislative process. While SB 76 is presented as an enforcement bill, it lacks the strength and accountability measures necessary to meaningfully address illegal immigration in Indiana. Advancing a watered-down bill risks undermining real reform and giving legislators political cover without delivering results.
Indiana lawmakers should not settle for half-measures!
Hoosiers deserve legislation that actually works; legislation that protects communities, supports law enforcement, and treats lawful workers and taxpayers fairly!
