Great news from Tallahassee! This morning, Florida Farm Bureau's highest priority, SB 88, was signed into law by Governor DeSantis! Florida now has what may be the strongest Right to Farm law in the country. It will provide broad protection from nuisance lawsuits and be a strong deterrent against frivolous legal actions for years to come. The bill will take effect on July 1. On behalf of Florida's farmers and ranchers, the Florida Farm Bureau Federation wants to thank Governor DeSantis, and the Florida Legislature for their strong support of Florida's Right to Farm legislation. Under the leadership of President Wilton Simpson and bill sponsor Sen. Jason Brodeur, the measure passed the Senate by a 37-1 margin. Rep. Jayer Williamson sponsored the bill in the House led the bill pass by an equally impressive 110-7 vote in the House. We are very grateful to the sponsors and many other legislative leaders who supported the efforts to pass the bill. We are also grateful for the hundreds of Farm Bureau members who sent emails, wrote op-eds, made phone calls and provided an overwhelming level of support for this significant victory. Our grassroots members made a huge difference in the passage of this bill! The Legislative Session is scheduled to conclude tomorrow. The budget must be passed and there are several other bills of interest that still must be considered, so we will send out an update on those issues at our normally scheduled time tomorrow. |
