TELL CALIFORNIA - SCRUTINIZE EQUALITY LABS SPONSORSHIP OF SB403!

Our community’s tireless advocacy efforts over the past several months paid off in a big way as we accomplished the politically Herculean success of removing caste as a standalone category in SB403. After strong testimonies by HAF’s Samir Kalra, Sikh leader Satnam Singh ji, and the community, the California Assembly Judiciary Committee defanged SB403. 

HOWEVER, OUR WORK ISN'T OVER YET

“Caste” still remains in SB403 and is defined under the category of “ancestry.” The lead sponsor of this bill, Equality Labs, is fighting to keep “caste” in the bill so that they can capitalize on SB403 and push their anti-Hindu agenda. We need YOU to educate your elected officials and expose Equality Labs for who they truly are— a for-profit organization that egregiously professes hatred against Hindus and Hinduism for their own benefit. In their trainings, Equality Labs espouses harmful rhetoric that demonizes and targets only one racial group—South Asians, particularly Hindu Americans. 

Even the Assembly Judiciary Committee’s consultant explicitly acknowledged what we already knew: that Equality Labs selectively targets one racial group. The committee analysis notes 

"Indeed, however broadly the bill in print might define the term, the letters and background information provided to the Committee by the author and supporters reinforce the association of caste and South Asians." 

As a constituent, it is YOUR responsibility to educate your elected officials about the dangers of this group and how SB403 will give Equality Labs a license to launch and profit from their unequivocally anti-Hindu “education campaigns” and trainings. We urge YOU to condemn activist group Equality Labs in sponsoring SB403 and ask the California General Assembly and State Legislature to VOTE NO. So long as “caste” remains in this bill, California is opening the door to allow anti-Hindu groups like Equality Labs to actively harm the Hindu community through their hateful trainings about Hinduism under the guise of “caste.”

Should SB403 pass, trainings that explicitly declare Hinduism as a fundamentally evil and oppressive religion will be taught to millions of Californians, instilling biases about Hindus that impact their safety and wellbeing in the workplace, education and other sectors.
