Make Diwali a State Holiday in Massachusetts!
The Massachusetts State House and Massachusetts State Senate have introduced two bills, MA HD 3430 and MA SD 2184, that would make the fifteenth day of the Hindu lunisolar month of Kartik an official state holiday, known as Diwali Day, throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
MA HD 3430 was introduced by Massachusetts State Representative Vaugh, whose last legislative session spearheaded a bill to make Diwali a state holiday, as well as Representatives Kane. MA SD 2184 was introduced by Massachusetts State Senator Moore.
These bills are important because they will help foster an environment of inclusiveness and pluralism by officially acknowledging, honoring and educating the public about the religious and historical significance of Diwali to Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs throughout Massachusetts and across the globe.
We need YOU to contact your Massachusetts State Legislators to urge them to co-sponsor MA HD 3430 and MA SD 2184!
