Tell California: Make Diwali a State Holiday!
Assemblymember Ash Kalra and Assemblymember Darshana Patel have introduced AB 268, a bill that would make the fifteenth day of the Hindu lunisolar month of Kartik an official state holiday, known as Diwali Day, throughout California.

Assemblymember Ash Kalra has spearheaded one-year commemorative resolutions for Diwali for the last eight years, and his new bill AB 268 would make Diwali a permanent state holiday.

This bill is important because it will help foster an environment of inclusiveness and pluralism by officially acknowledging, honoring and educating the public about the religious and historical significance of Diwali to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Sikhs throughout California and across the globe.

We need YOU to contact your California State Legislators to urge them to support AB 268!

Be sure to check out HAF's educational resources about Diwali: HAF’s Diwali Toolkit and HAF’s All About Diwali webpage.
