Stop Bad, Anti-India, Anti-Hindu Resolution H. Res. 745!
On December 6, 2019, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) introduced H. Res. 745, an anti-India and anti-Hindu resolution that condemns India for taking life-saving steps following the repeal of the discriminatory Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian constitution on August 5, 2019. H. Res. 745 also ignores the cleansing of 350,000 Kashmiri Hindus and Sikhs by a Pakistan-sponsored insurgency.

This bill contains language that is outright false and no longer relevant, given the government of India's near-immediate lifting of communications restrictions, restoration of freedom of assembly, and lifting of precautionary curfews. In addition, H. Res. 745 does not mention the fact that terrorist organizations, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, are the ones imposing the curfews, and have targeted apple farmers, their families and workers who are just trying to provide for their families.

What is worse is that H. Res. 745 glosses over the fact that terrorism is the number one killer in Kashmir.

More innocent people have died because of terrorist attacks in Kashmir than for any other reason.
Yet this resolution refers to the killers of Kashmir as "militants" and refers to "state-supported, cross border terrorism," but in that line doesn't name the terrorist organizations or the 'state' that supports them: Pakistan

Instead of defending Pakistan and terrorism, Congress should stand with America's ally India, the largest democracy in the world, and reject this bad legislation, which would severely damage the U.S.-India relationship.

Finally, H. Res. 745 makes no mention of Kashmiri Hindus and Sikhs, who were ethnically cleansed from their ancestral homeland in a brutal campaign of pogroms, including political assassinations, murders, rapes, and the destruction of businesses and houses of worship, that resulted in the forced expulsion of over 350,000 Kashmir Hindus and Sikhs in 1990, forever changing the demographics of the Kashmir Valley.

Congress has a duty to respect democracies who take steps to protect their people and stand strong in the face of terrorism. H. Res. 745 does the exact opposite.
