  Faith and Decision Making

"Among other things, [faith] shapes how a person regards other people and treats other people. Judges affect people-indirectly, but sometimes very powerfully, through their decisions. It's important to keep in mind that these decisions are not just abstract discussions. They have a real impact in the world and you have to keep that in mind."

-US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, responding to a question about how his Catholic faith affects his professional life.

What Happens in California Doesn't Stay in California

Last night, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law SB107, which allows California to take custody of children from around the nation in order to perform gender "transition" procedures on them, even against their parents' wills. [view Tweet]

According to the Sacramento Bee "The bill prohibits medical providers from releasing information in response to anti-gender-affirming-treatment lawsuits from other states. It also bars California state and local police from making an arrest or extradition for violating other states' laws regarding against gender-affirming treatment. It declares out-of-state warrants for violating those laws to be the lowest priority." [read full article here

Our counterpart in California, Jonathan Keller of the California Family Council stated last week that "SB 107 is one of the gravest threats to parental rights in recent years.  If Gov. Newsom foolishly signs this measure, California should brace for lawsuits. Other states' attorneys general will not sit idly by as California steals children from parents who don't want them sterilized with these trans-treatments."

World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) is apparently removing minimum age restrictions for the so-called transitioning of children

From the NCBC September Report

The advocacy organization World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) is apparently removing minimum age restrictions for the so-called transitioning of children in part in an effort to prevent doctors from being sued. Previously, the organization had suggested a child needed to be fourteen or older for hormone treatments, fifteen or older for breast removal, sixteen or older for breast augmentation or facial surgeries, seventeen or older for surgical procedures (including hysterectomy and "creating" a vagina), and eighteen or older for phalloplasty (manufacturing a fake penis).

Amy Tishelman, the lead author of the "Child" chapter in WPATH's new "guidelines," stated: "What we didn't want to do was create a chapter that would make it more likely that practitioners would be sued because they weren't following exactly what we said ... but we suggest that clinicians use their judgment about what to do in therapy situations and assessment situations so that they can use individualized clinical judgment and not face malpractice suits."
