Since assuming office for his second term, President Trump and his administration have weaponized xenophobic policies and rhetoric to relentlessly target immigrants and refugees - particularly those who are Brown, Black, and non-Christian. This president has instituted widespread travel bans, threatened to “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries,” and taken advantage of tragedies to attack the immigration statuses of entire nationalities.
Now more than ever before, Congress needs to pass the NO BAN Act, which was originally introduced in Congress in response to Trump’s infamous 2017 Muslim Ban.
The NO BAN Act would narrow the president’s ability to impede noncitizens entering the U.S., helping to ensure that those decisions are based on evidence and not prejudice. It would also prohibit unlawful religious discrimination in immigration-related decisions. Entry restrictions would need to be based on credible threats, address a compelling government interest, and use the least restrictive means possible.
Your members in Congress should be committed to positively reforming our immigration policies, strengthening nondiscriminatory practices for all, and combatting vitriolic xenophobia. Take just one moment now to urge Congress to cosponsor and support the NO BAN Act.
