Lawmakers in the House of Representatives are, once again, trying to pass legislation that targets evidence-based education funding for partisan political purposes.

Federal grants established by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 help ensure students are receiving a quality education in history, civics, and government, and support development and innovation in teachers’ ability to teach these subjects.

But the Civics and History Advancement to Restore Learning, Integrity, and Education (CHARLIE) Act would bar this funding for programs that acknowledge racism and transphobia.

There is nothing ‘neutral’ or ‘fair’ about censoring the lived experiences of marginalized communities. The fact that people who are transgender exist, and the fact that people of color experience racism, is not radical: it's reality.

In order for students to be prepared to understand and improve the world they live in and foster a truly pluralistic America, educators must be able to accurately teach, without fear, that some are discriminated against simply because of their race or gender.

Take just one minute now to tell your representative to oppose the CHARLIE Act.
