While standard on new buildings, over half of the high-rise apartment buildings in the country are non-sprinklered. Fire sprinklers decrease fire deaths by 90 percent and almost always contain a fire to the room of origin. The risk of injuries and death is lower for both civilians and firefighters in a building equipped with a sprinkler system.
The High-Rise Sprinkler Incentive Act (S.504) encourages building owners to install modern fire sprinkler systems in their existing buildings by decreasing the cost recovery of depreciation from 39 years to 15 years. Building owners would be more likely to install sprinklers in their buildings in this shorter time frame.
Please contact your Senators today to ask them to support the High-Rise Sprinkler Incentive Act and include it in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1).
