Support the Development of Next-Generation Turnout Gear
The World Health Organization, through the International Agency for Cancer Research, has shown that fire fighters are far more likely to develop cancer than the average person. Fire fighters' protective gear itself is manufactured with PFAS-chemicals and directly contributes to these alarming rates of cancer.  The IAFF urges Congress to help fund the research and development of next-generation turnout gear which is not only PFAS-free, but also utilizes emerging technology to make this gear more resistant to carcinogens, lighterweight, and provide more comprehensive protection against the dangers that fire fighters face every day.
