Secure Fair Pay and Hours for DOD Fire Fighters
Ten thousand civilian fire fighters protect US military bases and federal facilities around the world. Sadly, these public servants are forced to work grueling schedules of at least 72 hours per week and are paid an average of just $16.26 an hour. These dedicated men and women serving our nation's service members deserve better. The IAFF urges Congress to pass the Federal Firefighter Pay Equity Act (H.R. 1235). This bill would reduce DOD fire fighters' schedules to no more than 60 hours per week and effectively raise their pay to a level that matches their skills, dedication, and training.
