Give Federal Fire Fighters a Healthy Work/Life Balance
The Federal Firefighters Families First Act (H.R. 759/S. 2473) is about putting fire fighters and their families first. Federal fire fighters shouldn’t be forced to grind through 72-hour workweeks to earn a full paycheck. This schedule denies fire fighters the time they need to recover between shifts and forces them to miss important events in the lives of their friends and families. H.R. 759/S. 2473 brings much-needed improvements to federal fire fighters' lives by capping their scheduled workweek at 60 hours while also preserving their current salaries. This bill also fixes a long-standing injustice by counting the full value of scheduled overtime toward retirement. The IAFF urges Congress to pass H.R. 759/S. 2473 and give fire fighters and their families safer schedules, fairer pay, and stronger pensions.
