Protect OH Fire Fighters' Retirement
OAPFF firefightermentalhealth.org

We need your help to protect the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund (OP&F) and your retirement. As the Ohio Senate develops the annual budget, the OAPFF and Ohio FOP are working with legislators to pass an amendment that would help bring a balanced funding approach to the OP&F.

Use the contact form below to automatically email your state senator asking them to support the budget amendment proposed by Senator Andrew Brenner and Senator Al Cutrona to protect the OP&F and your retirement.

The facts are clear:

  • Over the past 10 years, Ohio’s police officers and fire fighters have stepped up, as they always have, doing their part and accepting cuts to benefits and increases to their contributions to the OP&F.
  • Employer contributions have stayed the same for nearly 40 years, we have continued to make sure the OP&F can provide the secure retirements that Ohio public safety officers deserve.
  • Senators Andrew Brenner and Al Cutrona offered a critical amendment to protect the pensions that are key to fire fighters' retirements and retention efforts across the state.
  • The amendment outlines a phased approach to protecting the OP&F by gradually increasing contribution rates over five years.
  • For the first time since the 1980s, this amendment more fairly distributes the costs of investing in the OP&F by ensuring employers and employees pay their share.
  • We all need to ensure the police and fire fighters retirements remain healthy by keeping the OP&F fiscally strong and solvent.
  • This amendment is a statement that Ohio keeps its promises to those who spend a career keeping our citizens safe.
