Governor Vetoes "No-More-Stringent" Compromise Bill
Governor Pence vetoed HB 1082 today. HB 1082 originally began as Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) "No-More-Stringent-Than EPA" legislation, but was amended with compromise language that still provided for legislative review before IDEM rules become effective.
The IBA, along with our coalition partners, strongly supported HB 1082, which would have provided a common-sense approach to environmental rulemaking for the State of Indiana. The bill would not have restricted IDEM's ability to act in cases of emergencies, such as the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
The IBA will meet with legislative leaders to examine possible future action on this issue, and we thank members who reached out to their elected officials. |
