The United Church of Christ affirms that young people deserve accurate, comprehensive, shame-free sex education, NOT classroom censorship. That is why we're calling on Congress to pass the Real Education and Access for Healthy Youth Act of 2025.
Comprehensive sexuality education is about so much more than sexual behavior. It's about dismantling shame and stigma around bodies and relationships. This is lifesaving work. We know shame and stigma can be fatal.
Our church is called to eradicate stigma and dehumanization of people related to their gender, gender expression, orientation, or sexual history. Doing God's work in the world includes providing life-affirming, lifespan sexuality education that is developmentally appropriate, scientifically accurate, and grounded in the understanding that information about human sexuality is helpful, not harmful.
Amid ongoing legislative attacks on inclusive sex education and executive attempts to defund teen pregnancy prevention programs, it is critical that our elected officials vote to fund comprehensive sex education programs.
