Affirming Pope Francis's Call to Love Your Neighbor
In a recent message to U.S. Catholic Bishops regarding the new immigration policy landscape in our country, Pope Francis encouraged all people of faith to “not give in to narratives that discriminate against and cause unnecessary suffering to our migrant and refugee brothers and sisters.” He noted that Christian love is “a universal love” focused on the “dignity of every human being,” not a “concentric expansion of interests that little by little extend to other persons and groups.”

Pope Francis underscored the moral imperative to respect the inherent dignity of every human being, especially those who are displaced, marginalized, or seeking refuge. He calls on all of us to reject a culture of exclusion and indifference, emphasizing that the treatment of immigrants and refugees is not merely a political issue but a profoundly moral one. As he states, “The true common good is promoted when society and government, with creativity and strict respect for the rights of all — as I have affirmed on numerous occasions — welcomes, protects, promotes and integrates the most fragile, unprotected and vulnerable.”

Join the Ignatian Solidarity Network in inviting your federally elected officials to reflect on Pope Francis’s invitation to recognize the dignity of people who migrate and seek to construct policies that demonstrate a sense of love and compassion.
