Georgia - Protect Access to Georgia's Waterways
In 2023, Governor Brian Kemp signed SB 115 into law, codifying centuries of common law that ensure that Georgia’s streams held in the public trust are accessible for citizens to fish, boat and hunt.

However, legislation currently under consideration in the state Senate threatens to undermine anglers’ right to access to Georgia’s navigable streams. HB 1172, currently before the Senate Rules Committee, would introduce ambiguity on where and how the public can fish, hunt or pass through streams, creating barriers to and confusion around public access. As landowners adjacent to the state’s navigable streams continue to claim ownership of stream beds, Georgia’s anglers could stand to lose access to some of the state’s best fishing opportunities.

Call on your Senators to oppose this legislation and maintain fishing access to navigable streams statewide.
