Minnesota Credit Union Network

Protecting our credit union
As not-for-profit financial cooperatives, credit unions do not pay federal corporate income tax on profits. Instead, we return those earnings directly to our members. This structure helps keep our focus on people, not profits.

However, some Wall Street bank lobbyists and certain lawmakers in Congress are pushing to impose taxes on credit unions. If this tax is approved, it would mean higher costs for you and the more than 140 million other Americans who choose credit unions as their financial partner. This is a critical issue, and we need your help. Please act today by contacting your U.S. Representative and Senators to tell them: Don’t Tax My Credit Union. You can easily take action with the pre-written message

By taxing credit unions, these big banks aim to eliminate competition, boosting their own profits. But it doesn’t make sense to penalize people like you for choosing to keep your money in a credit union rather than a bank. We deeply appreciate your advocacy and, together, we can protect your credit union and the millions of families who depend on them. Your voice matters, and nothing resonates more with elected officials than hearing directly from constituents like you.
