Rising violence in the West Bank
Background: While Israel continues to commit a genocide against the Palestinian people of Gaza, the West Bank is under siege. The push towards annexation of Palestinian lands has increased as more countries recognize Palestinian statehood. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated there will be no U.S. opposition to Israeli annexation of the West Bank.

Since October 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed nearly a thousand and injured over 21,000 Palestinians in the West Bank. Israeli forces have also increased arrests of Palestinians, including senior officials of Fatah (the leading party of the Palestinian Authority).

This is a critical moment to urge the U.S. Congress and the Trump administration to:

  • Press Israel to stop settler violence, end illegal settlements on Palestinian land, and reverse the push for the large-scale annexation of the West Bank.
  • Hold Israel accountable for illegal actions in the West Bank.
  • End impunity for Israeli leaders and settlers engaged in home demolitions and the expulsion of Palestinians from their lands.

Faith reflection: “For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock.” (Psalm 27:5)

Its placement here cut off a main road severely affecting the local economy. Many shops and homes in the area have been abandoned. (2017) MCC photo/Elizabeth Kessler
