Stop H.R. 1: Family Child Care Is Under Threat
Congress is moving fast, and family child care educators must act now.

H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill, has already passed the Senate by one vote. It now heads to the House. This bill would tear apart the foundation that home-based educators and the families they serve rely on to survive.

H.R. 1 would:

  • Gut Medicaid, SNAP, the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and nutrition programs
  • Strip coverage from over 17 million people
  • Slash food assistance for 40 million SNAP recipients
  • Push states to cut benefits or eligibility due to cost
  • Impose punitive paperwork and work requirements designed to push people off benefits

These cuts hit home. Up to 40% of early educators rely on Medicaid or SNAP to support their own families. If this bill passes, many will be forced to shut down. Families will lose access to care. Programs like CACFP will be harder to run. Children will go without the food and stability they need.

This bill helps the wealthiest 1%—and leaves the rest behind. It expands tax breaks for billionaires while dismantling the care systems that hold our communities together.
