Urge Congress to Authorize Relief from High Federal Long Term Care Insurance Premiums
We need your action on a pressing issue affecting federal workers and retirees across the nation. The Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP) has seen substantial increases in premiums, leaving enrollees struggling to afford their coverage.
More than 265,000 federal employees and retirees are now facing unexpected and astronomical premium hikes in their FLTCIP policies. These increases have come as a shock, as the initial premiums quoted to enrollees were intended to remain stable for their lifetime. In 2016, premiums spiked by up to 126 percent, and the situation has worsened in 2023, with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) unable to provide clear information on the extent of the premium increases.
This situation is deeply unfair and financially burdensome for enrollees, who are now forced to choose between paying significantly higher premiums or losing their investment in their FLTCIP policies when enrollees were led to believe their premiums would remain relatively stable.
Use the letter below to ask your lawmakers to urge members of Congress to hold – or call for - hearings investigating the reasons behind these premium increases, the profit structure of the FLTCIP program, and support relief measures.
