As the needs of our society evolve, it is imperative that the public services we provide progress at a similar pace, and the United States Postal Service (USPS) is lagging regarding its regulations on shipping alcoholic beverages. As it stands under current law, the USPS cannot deliver alcohol, putting it behind the curve when compared to other, private postal carriers. This not only disadvantages the USPS by excluding them from the revenue generated from delivering alcohol, but it hurts local breweries, vineyards, and distilleries by limiting their options when considering shipping partners.
H.R. 3011, the USPS Shipping Equity Act, would allow the USPS to directly ship from licensed sellers to consumers over the age of 21, leveling the playing field between shipping companies and increasing both consumer and producer choice. This change is predicted to generate millions of dollars in revenue annually and bolster the economy.
Contact your lawmakers today to urge them to support modernized shipping regulations for the USPS by cosponsoring and supporting this bill.
