Streamlining the process of accessing personnel record files, regardless of the reason, is crucial for both current and former federal employees. By simplifying this access, we can ensure that individuals have the necessary tools to review their employment history, benefits, and other vital information that impacts their careers and personal lives.  

H.R. 4440, Protecting Federal Employee Rights to Personnel Files Act of 2025 would allow federal employees and retirees easier access to personnel files by requiring agencies to provide separated employees with an electronic and physical copy of their file within 7 days of separation.  

This transparency not only promotes accountability within federal agencies but also empowers employees to better understand their rights and responsibilities. It is crucial that we advocate policies that prioritize easy access to these important records for all federal personnel.
