Urge Your Senators to Cosponsor the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023

Urge Your Senators to Cosponsor the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, S. 597

The Social Security Fairness Act, H.R. 82/S. 597, introduced in the House by Reps. Garret Graves, R-LA, and Abigail Spanberger, D-VA, and in the Senate by Sens. Sherrod Brown, D-OH, and Susan Collins, R-ME, presents a significant opportunity to right a long-standing injustice. This legislation seeks to fully repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO), which have unfairly reduced the retirement benefits of dedicated public servants who have served our communities.

As H.R. 82 has already surpassed the 290 cosponsors needed to trigger the House Consensus Calendar rule that either spurs committee action or floor vote, we are calling on House Ways and Means Committee Members to mark up H.R. 82.

Our advocacy efforts, however, remain critical in the Senate as we continue to increase cosponsorship for Senate companion bill, S. 597 to help advance discussions and bolster support for WEP/GPO repeal in both chambers.

Utilize the sample letter below to send to your Senators urging them to cosponsor the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, S. 597. If your Senators are already cosponsors of this legislation, the system will prompt you to send a thank you message instead.

Your advocacy is pivotal in propelling S. 597 through the legislative process. That is why it is crucial that we make the added push!

Reach out to your Senators and urge them to support and cosponsor S. 597 by personalizing a letter below.
