You can use this empty form as an easy, accessible way to contact your officials about issues related to education, including those affecting school psychologists and the children and families they serve. Please be sure to direct your message to the appropriate elected officials depending on which level(s) of government have jurisdiction over your issue. On the right side of this page, there are two message boxes. The first box will send messages to your federal elected officials (members of Congress) and the second box will send messages to your state elected officials (state legislators and governor).Unlike other NASP action alerts, you will need to write your message from scratch. You can use the tips below and NASP's Policy Playbook to help you craft your message.
We recommend doing the following to make your message as effective as possible:
- Clearly identify the problem or issue you are contacting their office about and make sure it is an issue that can be addressed at their level of government--state or federal (for example, the federal government cannot address curriculum-related issues as that is designated to state governments).
- Provide a solution(s) to your identified problem (this can be specific legislation you want them to support/oppose, a policy they should consider, or a general solution like increasing access to school-based mental health services). The more specific you can be, the better, but being super specific isn't always possible.
- Share the benefits of taking action! Same as above, the more specific you can be, the better.
If you have any questions about advocacy, please reach out to your regional representatives on NASP's Government and Professional Relations Committee. Happy advocating!
