Students, families, and communities are being negatively affected by critical workforce shortages in school psychology. The current national ratio (1:1065) is over double NASP’s recommendation of 1 school psychologist for every 500 students. Some states and districts have ratios exceeding 1:5000, or have no school psychologist at all, especially in rural and underserved communities. Our students deserve better, and so do we.
We urgently need to grow the school psychology workforce and increase access to comprehensive services. That is why we are calling on Congress to protect the only two federal grants that support state and local efforts to address the shortage of school psychologists and other school-based mental health professionals.
Write and call your Members of Congress NOW and tell them to support funding that increases access to school psychologists and supports students’ learning and well-being.
