Support Childhood Mental Health by Increasing School Social Workers

Bill # H7456 and S2245: Improve Child Mental Health by Increasing Access to School Social Workers

Access to school social work is critical to the success of students in school and beyond. School social workers play a vital role in fostering a safe, supportive, and nurturing educational environment for the students they serve, while also addressing the challenges a student may face. At a minimum, there should be one social worker for every 250 students. Having an appropriate social worker-to-student ratio will allow teachers to focus on educating students and get students proper attention to their needs.
