A final tax reform bill
was passed out of the Conference Committee on December 15. This bill cannot be amended, and it goes back to both the House and Senate for final votes. The House is scheduled to vote on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Tuesday, and the Senate vote will be shortly thereafter. Despite some concessions in the final bill, it still has harmful provisions for people with disabilities. (See Center for Public Representation's analysis here
for the bill's impact on people with disabilities.) The biggest concerns are the elimination of the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate and the $1.5 trillion deficit that Congress has said will be paid for with cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and other important programs. Although the bill likely has enough votes to pass both the House and Senate, we must continue to loudly register our disapproval of the bill and we need to ask lawmakers to keep their hands off of Medicaid in the future.
