Fires in high-rise buildings are extremely dangerous, putting citizens at risk and testing the limits of even the best fire departments. Join us in our obligation to protect thousands of residents (and their possessions) around the country. Existing high-rise buildings hold highly flammable synthetic materials used in furnishings and often lack maintenance on fire protection systems. This intensifies the dangers to occupants and the firefighters called to respond.
Unfortunately, there is currently no economic incentive for residential high-rise property owners to protect their residents and retrofit their properties with fire sprinklers. This bill would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to classify certain automatic fire sprinkler system retrofits as 15-year property for purposes of depreciation.
