Physician-assisted suicide legislation has passed in both the NY Senate and Assembly. Our only hope is Governor Hochul vetoing the bill.
The legislature passed Bill A136 to allow physicians to prescribe lethal doses of medication for the express purpose of ending a patient’s life. Unlike every other state, there is no waiting period. There is not even a requirement for a mental health evaluation and nothing to prevent doctor shopping. Disability-rights groups oppose this bill because they know it will create pressure on people to end their lives if they don't have full bodily autonomy.
Don't allow Big Insurance, hospitals or the state to cut medical costs by encouraging sick and disabled people to kill themselves. We are better than this!
In Canada, a law similar to this quickly led to expansions, with people with non-terminal illnesses and even mental illnesses eligible. Five percent of Canadian deaths are now from assisted suicide/euthanasia. Don't let that happen here.
Contact Governor Hochul’s office today to voice your opposition to this dangerous and deadly practice!
