The Climate Superfund Act seeks to retroactively penalize New Jersey companies $50 billion for legally providing fossil fuels that were and are essential to our survival, prosperity and national security.
The retroactive penalties of these companies, which are likely unconstitutional, WILL result in higher prices at the gas pump and higher utility bills to add to New Jersey’s well-documented energy affordability crisis.
Applying a cost analysis performed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to a proposed $40 billion retroactive assessment on these companies, the total additional cost per household would be more than $1,000 annually for nine years.
Beyond being unfair to businesses that provide a legal product which is essential to our survival and prosperity, the bill would also impact jobs at New Jersey refineries that provide billions of dollars to the state and national economies. The bill would have no bearing on climate change and would set a precedent for any New Jersey business that if you follow the law, you can still be penalized billions of dollars.
Tell your legislator to oppose this extreme, unfair, ineffective legislation that WILL raise your energy costs and remove our energy choice.
