Access to comprehensive healthcare—including dental, vision, and hearing services—is critical for overall well-being, yet millions of Medicare beneficiaries struggle to afford or access these essential services. Currently, Medicare does not cover routine dental, vision, or hearing care, leaving many without necessary treatment.

The need for expanded coverage is urgent:

• Nearly 24 million Medicare beneficiaries—almost half—lack dental coverage, forcing many to skip necessary care due to cost.
• One-third of Americans aged 65 to 74 experience hearing loss, yet only one in four diagnosed with hearing issues uses a hearing aid, primarily due to affordability barriers.
• 92% of Medicare beneficiaries need eyeglasses, but those enrolled in traditional Medicare lack any coverage for eye care.
   

Legislation to expand Medicare coverage

Two bills have been introduced in Congress to ensure that seniors and people with disabilities can access the care they need:

H.R. 2045: Medicare Dental, Vision, and Hearing Benefit Act

• Provides dental cleanings, exams, major services, emergency care, dentures, eye exams, glasses, and hearing aids.
   

S. 939: Medicare Dental, Hearing, and Vision Expansion Act

• Expands coverage for preventive and restorative dental care, eye exams, corrective lenses, hearing assessments, and hearing aids.
