Make clinical trials more accessible for all patients

No patient should be priced out of research—make clinical trials affordable and accessible.

Clinical trials drive medical progress—but too many patients can’t afford to participate.

On average, cancer trial participants pay $600 a month in extra costs like travel, lodging, parking, and lost wages. These expenses often prevent patients from joining studies that could advance new, lifesaving treatments.

The Clinical Trials Modernization Act (H.R. 3521)—introduced by Reps. Raul Ruiz (D-CA-25) and August Pfluger (R-TX-11)—would help eliminate these barriers by:

  • Allowing sponsors to cover both medical and non-medical costs for participants
  • Funding outreach and recruitment through HHS grants
  • Expanding the use of digital health tools to make participation more convenient
  • Protecting patients from being taxed on financial assistance.

No one should miss the chance to join a clinical trial because they can’t afford to participate. Congress must act now to make research more affordable, accessible, and patient-centered.

Take a moment to contact your lawmakers now and urge them to support the Clinical Trials Modernization Act (H.R. 3521) today. Together, we can open the door to innovation—and ensure every patient has the opportunity to be part of the future of care.
