This expanding violence is inseparable from the devastation in Gaza, where tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed and nearly the entire population displaced, many multiple times. Families are struggling to survive without consistent access to food, water, medical care, or shelter, as homes, hospitals, and essential infrastructure continue to be destroyed. These realities are part of a longer pattern shaped by Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian land and the absence of accountability for ongoing violations of human rights and international law.
For decades, the United States has played a central role in enabling this reality through extensive military assistance, including tens of billions of dollars in recent years that have supported Israel’s military operations in Gaza, the West Bank, and now across the region. U.S.-supplied weapons are being used in ways that are contributing directly to ongoing violence and civilian harm. As Israel has continued to violate U.S. and international law without accountability, U.S. taxpayer-subsidized military aid to Israel must end.
In March, Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Peter Welch (D-VT) introduced Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (S.J.Res. 32, 136, 137, & 138). These resolutions would block the transfer of tens of thousands of bombs and prohibit the sale of Caterpillar bulldozers used in military operations, including the demolition of Palestinian homes.
This is a critical opportunity for Congress to act.
Write your Senator today and urge them to support these Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to halt U.S. weapons transfers that are contributing to civilian suffering and the escalation of violence.
