As part of our commitment to ensuring that every child can learn and thrive in an inclusive and welcoming environment, we are working to better understand how heightened immigration enforcement is affecting students and families in our PTA communities. We know that when fear increases, school attendance and engagement often suffer, and the ripple effects can touch every student, teacher and family. To advocate effectively, we need to hear directly from those or on behalf of those families who are experiencing these impacts firsthand.
We invite you to share your story about:
- How immigration enforcement has affected your family, your child’s ability to attend school consistently, or the sense of safety and belonging within your school community.
- If you are a teacher, how have you or your colleagues been impacted, including teachers with work visas, those who have fear coming into school, etc.
- Whether it has created challenges with daily routines, hesitations about participating in school activities, or broader disruptions to your household.
- The indirect impacts you have faced due to the ongoing discourse about immigration enforcement in the United States.
Your experience matters. By listening to and learning from you, we can deepen our understanding of what students and families are facing.
We plan to share these stories with elected officials to help them fully grasp how immigration enforcement or concerns regarding it is shaping the wellbeing and educational success of children in our schools. Your voice is essential in helping us advocate for policies that protect and support every learner. Together, we can work toward a future where every child—regardless of immigration status—has the stability, safety, and opportunity they deserve to thrive.
