Just two days after our association’s annual Hill Day this past March, the Senate unanimously passed COPPA 2.0, and it is now time to pass the Senate version of KOSA this Congress as well. Together, these bills would establish strong safeguards and provide parents and guardians with critical tools, including requiring that internet companies establish the highest privacy as the default setting for young social media users, banning targeted advertising toward children and teens, strengthening mechanisms for reporting dangerous or discriminatory conduct online and providing parents and guardians with the ability to erase their child’s personal data online. Our association believes these two critical pieces of legislation must be included in any related negotiations taking place in the Senate later this Summer.
Take action TODAY and urge the U.S. Senate to mark up and pass the Kids Online Safety Act (S. 1748) to ensure that all children and youth are safe online!
