Pornography has disastrous consequences on the mind, body, and soul. It has been known to destroy relationships and marriages, become an addiction, and extinguish motivation and self-esteem. However, when children are exposed, the consequences are even more acute. When children are exposed to this sort of material, the images take root and affect the very development of their brains. They become sexualized at a young age, and their childhoods are robbed of them.
Children are regularly and quickly exposed without seeking the content out. A 2002 Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Report found that 70% of youth ages 15-17 accidentally stumbled across pornography online.
Children represent all that is pure and innocent in our society. Besides the issue of life, nothing is more sacred and worthy of protection than the minds and hearts of children. We must do everything in our power to protect children from the harm of this explicit content that is so easily accessible.
H. 3424 would require pornography sites to verify the age of their users before they can access any of the content and only allow access for those above the age of 18. This would provide essential protection for children from the tremendously harmful effects of porn.
Urge your senator to protect children from this content and vote YES on H. 3424.
