Physicians treating Medicare patients are facing a crisis. For the fifth consecutive year physicians are experiencing a Medicare payment cut, even as practice costs continue to rise by 3.5%, according to the Medicare Economic Index. Meanwhile, CMS announced in April that insurers with Medicare Advantage (MA) plans are receiving a windfall payment increase of over 5%- totaling more than $25 billion from 2025 to 2026. 

Physicians cannot sustain this disparity. At a time when lawmakers should be linking payment updates to the cost of providing care, Congress instead allowed another round of cuts, jeopardizing patient access and threatening the viability of countless practices. The time for change is now. 

Take action on this issue! Contact your Senators and express support for the inclusion of a permanent, MEI-based inflationary update to the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and reform of the budget neutrality statute in the 2025 budget reconciliation package currently being considered in Congress.
