—Pope Leo XIV, address to World Meeting of Popular Movements, 23 October 2025
This past weekend, over 8 million people showed up in public demonstrations across the United States to declare that, in this country, we have No Kings. Interfaith Alliance promoted resources to create intentional spaces of presence by people of many faiths. As part of the wider faith movement, many Catholics seized this opportunity to show up as part of their ongoing spiritual practice to stand up for the dignity of all people and to keep showing up in unity and solidarity with those being targeted for oppression. You may have been one of them; thank you for your ministry! You can see a number of Mercy participants at the photo book website; it can still be updated with your photos if you send them (with names of those shown) to justice@sistersofmercy.org.
We now encourage you to consider other upcoming opportunities to witness commitment to Mercy’s critical concerns. The Mercy Justice Team is a partner in A Season of Faithful Witness, an initiative to promote Catholic public, prophetic prayer witnesses between Ash Wednesday and the Feast of Corpus Christi. But the movement doesn’t end on June 4. After that time, the movement will continue under the name Catholics in Communion. You are encouraged to visit the movement’s website, where you can sign up to receive information and get connected to other Catholics in your local area who likewise want to engage in public prayer vigils. You may already be involved in local coalitions that are taking similar action, but if you’re seeking for the first time, need something new, or have capacity to help organize a local Catholic vigil, this Season of Faithful Witness is a great time and way to build connections with other Catholics nearby.
Another way to engage, for those within a couple hours’ drive of Washington, D.C. (or those with a bit of adventure in your heart!), is to consider traveling to attend Ecumenical Advocacy Days April 20–22. This event has been calling together Christians of many kinds for decades, and it’s now returning to a fully in-person event after several years of online and hybrid gatherings. Under the theme of “Protecting People, Peace, and Planet”, there will be worship, workshops, powerful speakers, and a chance to meet with congressional staff in their Washington, D.C. offices. Early bird registration closes on April 6 to lock in your desire to participate in a lobby visit. Let us know at justice@sistersofmercy.org if you plan to attend!
