As School Sisters of Notre Dame, associates, and partners in mission, we stand with all people committed to protect human dignity, the rights and well-being of every person, and the sovereignty of every nation.
The Call and Acts of the 25th General Chapter assert that we must be “present with people at the peripheries and collaborate together to end all forms of discrimination, inequity, and violence.” We remain committed to the people of Venezuela in this crisis. We pray and speak together for a resolution that respects their sovereignty and dignity.
Alongside the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, the School Sisters of Notre Dame, our associates, and partners in mission urge the U.S. government to cease any military involvement in Venezuela and to support international efforts that foster fair elections (standing by the elections Venezuela recently held), a peaceful transfer of power, and conditions in which democracy can truly flourish. The people of Venezuela deserve the freedom to determine their own future without coercion, violence, or external domination.
Considering these experiences, the signs of the times, and our SSND commitment to promoting peace, the dignity of life and the care of all creation, we ask you to contact your members of Congress and urge their support for this and future War Powers resolutions on Venezuela.
