The Senate is currently considering H.R. 1, a large legislative package to address taxes, border security, and other policy issues. In an effort to cut spending and pay for other priorities, the bill would cut and change policies related to Medicaid and ACA insurance coverage. Language in both House and Senate versions of the bill, would lead to millions of people losing coverage and would raise premiums and out-of-pocket costs for people who are able to maintain their plan.
In the United States, more than 72 million people rely on Medicaid to access quality, affordable healthcare, including children, parents, seniors, and many breast cancer patients and survivors. Similarly, 24 million Americans depend on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplaces for insurance coverage. The bill is projected to lead to 16 million people losing coverage, significantly increasing the uninsured rate in the US.
People receiving treatment for breast cancer, seeking breast cancer screenings, or otherwise ensuring their ongoing breast health via regular visits cannot afford to lose access to insurance or have a sudden gap in care. Health care savings cannot come off the backs of patients.
Please join Susan G. Komen in asking the Senate to stand up for the breast cancer community and reject these health care cuts.
