Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Todd Young (R-IN) have introduced
S 1268 the Strengthening Research in Adult Education Act, which will "help gather data needed to expand the national education research base to improve the effectiveness of adult education programs."
With almost half of the adult education participants being English learners, this bill will provide the means for enhanced support for ELs and all AEs by improving programs. The bill will direct guidance on data collection of:
- Successful state and local adult education and literacy activities;
- Characteristics and academic achievement of adult learners, and;
- Access to and opportunity for adult education, including digital and information literacy skills development - skills the AE ELs need to succeed.
