Tell the BLM you do not want to see the Ambler Road built. Please take a quick moment to sign this petition.
Dear Bureau of Land Management:
I respectfully urge you to deny the permit for the proposed Ambler Road, a 211-mile industrial corridor that poses unacceptable risks to some of America’s most extraordinary hunting and fishing grounds.
Home to Alaska’s largest caribou herds, along with Dall sheep, moose, grizzly bear, sheefish, and Dolly Varden, the Brooks Range inspires countless Americans who dream of experiencing this big, wild country. The fish and wildlife resources in this vast region support 66 rural communities as well as a collective of guides, outfitters, transporters, air taxi services, and other small businesses.
The proposed Ambler Industrial Road—approximately the width of Ohio—would bisect the Western Arctic Caribou Herd’s migratory habitat and winter range. Habitat fragmentation would likely impact this herd that is already experiencing a population decline. This could result in fewer hunting opportunities and elevated conflicts between the various user groups that rely on this prized big game and subsistence species.
The industrial corridor would also result in more than 2,900 stream culverts that could degrade fish habitat and block fish passage. The project would cross 11 major rivers, diminishing the region’s recreation economy and potentially threatening fisheries that are essential for dozens of rural communities.
I ask that the BLM maintain the enduring values of Alaska’s Brooks Range for all. Please deny the permit for the Ambler Road. Thank you for your time and consideration.
