The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is considering changes to Alaska’s reservation of water program that could make it harder to keep water in Alaska rivers, streams, and lakes for fish and wildlife, recreation, and navigation.
Tell DNR that you support maintaining Alaska's current reservation of water regulations, not weakening them.
Dear Department of Natural Resources,
As Alaskans who fish, hunt, and recreate on rivers, lakes, and streams throughout the state, we urge you to maintain the current reservation of water program. The current laws and regulations balance the needs of our fish and wildlife with other industrial uses that withdraw water from our waterways, but new changes being considered tip the scale too far in favor of industrial and commercial uses. It is not in the best interests of Alaskan families and businesses to remove water out of our rivers, streams, and lakes at the expense of our fish and wildlife.
We ask you to reject any efforts or changes to this program that would weaken the current ability to maintain water in freshwater rivers, streams, and lakes. Keeping water in rivers, streams, and lakes is beneficial and important to Alaskans, and our economy, culture, fishing and hunting, and way of life.
